Alice Priory (b.1997) is a figurative painter based in Kent, UK. She is currently studying Contemporary Portraiture at the Art Academy on the Miriam Waterman Scholarship.
Drawing on her background in Philosophy, her practice explores themes of subjectivity, visibility, and connection through a female lens. At the heart of her work is what it feels like to be seen. In a world where we are constantly aware of being observed, by others and by ourselves, she explores the tension between authenticity and performance, and how our sense of self is shaped through social awareness and the expectations of others.
